The world’s favorite BA assassin is back with his chapter in what is sure to be yet another action-packed, explosive-rigged, fight fest filled with all the intensity you would expect from a John Wick Film
Chapter three is set in for May 2019. That is in stone, but there are other ideas in the pool including a TV series developed by Chad Stahelski involving other assassins coordinated together in the Continental hotels. This all comes from the John Wickcomic book series, so new ideas are plentiful surely enough for their own television series.
Looks like Reeves was born for this role, just look at that resemblance.
There’s no doubting John Wick’s success, both in his character’s abilities and the movie’s profit.
The first film grossed $88 million worldwide ($43 million domestically and $45.7 million internationally) in 2014, and that was topped by the second film earlier this year with $171.5 million worldwide ($92 million domestically and $79.5 million internationally.
A film to this degree has pulled actors such as William Dafoe, Common (the rapper), and an old-time Matrix reunion with Laurence Fishburn last seen in the mix as the Bowery King in John Wick 2. Hopefully, we can see a reappearance from some of these guys in Chapter 3.
What Else to Expect in John Wick: Chapter 3
Who can know with all the comic books fueling writers with ideas, this story could go anyway. The series is in its third chapter; could this be the end of John Wick. Will he meet his demise? Hard to say, “I once saw him kill three men in a bar… with a pencil, with a fucking pencil.” They already showed how that type of incredible ingenuity is actually possible in Chapter two so we’ll be expecting something new here. No doubt, there will still be the good ol’ fight scenes, but with that certain John Wick flare.
“We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world… I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Number Two, that I’d like to go back to on [chapter three] and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York. So rather than massive set pieces, I’d like to show you cooler and more intricate ones… I think it would be a mistake budget wise and creatively to just go big and blow up a freeway. That’s not our gig. That’s a comic book or a Bond gig. We want to show you cool and intricate details. What are those little details in everyday life? Hopefully – we make people look at garbage collectors and cleaner vans and homeless people a little differently now.”
John Wick Chapter 2, ends with Wick’s bounty doubling after killing Santino on Continental, a no-kill zone. John Wick had already noticed a number of his former comrades trying to kill him over a simple 7 million dollar contract, now with 14 million on his head, he had every right to be paranoid with enemies actually surrounding him. The garbage men, the old ladies on the bench, the hot girl walking her dog, all assassins, all after Wick. He took his one-hour head start and was running.
The man is on the run, but where on Earth will he go to escape this professional ring of assassins. Maybe let’s ask John Wick himself, here are words from Keanu Reeves.
I think the opening of the film should be Wick just trying to escape from New York. Literally trying to get off the island. Maybe he asks [Lawrence Fisburne’s character] the Bowery King for help. Maybe John Leguizamo comes and helps me out. ‘John, I can’t do it, you’re excommunicado!’ Maybe the High Table shows up. And then the High Table starts firing guns. And then maybe this kind of thing starts to happen between the High Table and Continental? Maybe John is the activator of this confrontation, and perhaps there’s a war? Wouldn’t that be awesome?!
Going off the main theme of John Wick, Chapter 3 is going to be all about revenge. Chapter one: Wife dies of natural causes, gives Wick a puppy as a sign of hope, Iosef snaps that puppies neck and Wick takes that hit personally. Chapter 2: after evicting his revenge on Iosef, Wick wants his car back, Abram tries to avenge the loss of his nephew Iosef, but ends up feeling Wick’s wrath. Later, Santino gives Wick a job he cannot refuse, he refuses and Santino is forced to blow up Wick’s home destroying the last memories he had of his wife. Again, Wick takes this very personally and those who take away those precious memories of Wick’s wife feel his wrath in an action-packed bloodbath of a battle.
Who will piss off John Wick this time in Chapter 3? Will this new dog survive two whole films? Will John Wick be able to take down the entire Continental? Can the Boogyman, no, the killer of the Boogyman take down a whole organization of assassins? We won’t find out until May 2019 so I suggest you recap on the first two episodes in the meantime.
